She was the only daughter of Harry and Helen (Dreyer) Berman and grew up in Ithaca, Michigan with her parents and two brothers, Sterling and Sherwood. She attended Michigan State University, in East Lansing, Michigan and Lindenwood College in St. Louis, Missouri. In St. Louis, she met Harvey Alan Goldstein and they were married June 20, 1959. They moved to Michigan in 1968, and lived in Lansing for more than 30 years, where they raised their two children, Marcy and Darrel. Harriet and Harvey retired to Sarasota in 2001.
Harriet grew up in a traditional Jewish home, was very active with BBYO and later, Shaarey Zedek Congregation in Lansing, Temple Emanu-El in Sarasota, B’nai B’rith Women, and Hadassah. Growing up, her hobbies included tap dance and majorette. Later, she sang in Sweet Adelines and in her synagogue choirs. Harriet, together with her husband Harvey, enjoyed the performing arts, including musical theater, symphony, and dance. She worked for a time as a social worker and in various other jobs that served her community, but first and foremost, she was a homemaker. Harriet was very much a people person and had many friends and family who loved her throughout her life. She spent much of her life caring for others, especially her husband Harvey, and wanted nothing more than to make sure that the people around her were happy, loved, and well-cared for. She was always kind and considerate, and will be remembered for her sweet nature and the love she spread to everyone around her.
She is survived by her loving children Marcy (Vincent) Pellegrino, and Darrel Goldstein, grandchildren Jacob, Jonah, and Shira Pellegrino.
She is preceded in death by her husband Harvey Goldstein, brothers Sterling and Sherwood Berman, and parents, Helen and Harry Berman.
Graveside Service will be held on March 21, 2021 at 12pm at Temple Beth Sholom Cemetery,
