Geraldine Emile Wingate

Gerry was born in Hong Kong on August 3, 1923, the daughter of Gustavo Jorge and Margaret Catherine (Heffernan) Jorge. She came to the United States in 1947 with her twin sister Patricia and settled in New Jersey where she became a U.S. citizen and worked for many years as a legal secretary. In 1961, she married Charles A. Wingate, her loving husband of 54 years, who predeceased her in 2016. In 1970, Geraldine and Charles moved from New Jersey to Sarasota where she spent the last 47 years.

Gerry is survived by her four children: Nancy M. (Robert) Goss of Colts Neck, NJ, Frances P. (William J.) Chickering of St. Joseph, MI, Kenneth R. (Carol) Papa of Sarasota, and Kathleen A. (Robert) Goff of Sarasota; her four grandchildren: Elizabeth Chickering, William A. (Betsy) Chickering, Troy (Aleshia) Papa, and Chad Papa and her great granddaughter: Rose Chickering. In addition to her parents and husband, Geraldine was preceded in death by her brothers Francis Jorge and Patrick George, and her sister Patricia Kavanaugh.

Visitation and Celebration of Life Service will be held at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11 am with inurnment to follow at Palms-Robarts Memorial Park.
