The son of William and Sarah "Sadie" Johnson, he was a veteran of World War II and a sergeant with the United States Marine Corps.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Harry, William, and Thomas and 2 sisters Betty and Ann.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Lutz Johnson, 1 son, Dennis and his wife, Joyceann of West Milford, NJ; daughters Janis Johnson Scott of Sarasota, Fl, Pamela Perry and husband, Bobby of Tobyhanna, PA, Kathleen Warblow and her husband, Dick of Lutz, FL and Karen Guglielmini and her husband, Vinny of Sarasota, Fl. He had 4 Grandchildren, Alyssia O'Malley, Daniel Lampe, Jamie Harris and Ashley Harris and 2 Great Grandchildren Alexa and Ryan O'Malley.
“Shotsie” was inducted into Central High School Hall of Fame for Football, Baseball and Basketball. He was a member of The Association of Professional Ball Players of America, and during the 1940's played semi-pro baseball in the Grapefruit League. In the 1970's he developed a love for the game of golf, and after retiring became a ranger at Eastwood Golf Course in Ft Myers, Fl.

With his amazing blue eyes, bright silver hair and always a smile on his face, “Shotsie” never met a stranger.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, a part of our hearts has died along with him. Forever we will miss and love him.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, September 20th at 11:00 at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home, 170 Honore Ave Sarasota with the burial immediately following at the Sarasota National Cemetery on Clark Road.
