Eileen C. Campbell (nee Cox), 94, of Sarasota, FL, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024. Born in rural Ohio, she was raised in Ashtabula, Ohio where she graduated from Ashtabula High School. She was the daughter of the late Glenn Perry Cox (originally of Mansfield, OH) and Dorothy Aileen LaDue (originally from Buffalo, NY).
She married her high school sweetheart Charles J. Campbell in 1951 and began raising their family in Cleveland, Ohio. The family relocated to Miami, Fl in the 1960s, where she worked as City Clerk of the City of West Miami and spent many years working at the University of Miami from where she retired after serving as Assistant Director of the Honors Program.
Post retirement, she and her husband moved to Cary, NC where, after her husband’s passing, she served as a Guardian ad Litem for 9 years – a service that she was proud to provide to deserving children. She was an avid lifelong reader of literature thanks to the encouragement of her mother and later completed 7 years of study in the curriculum of The Great Books Foundation – an accomplishment of which she was truly proud. She enjoyed working in the library at Bay Village of Sarasota, where she lived happily, for many years until her passing.
Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Charles J. Campbell (2001), sister Evelyn Harris (Jerry), and brother William Cox. She is survived by her sister Shirley Karbacka (David), sons Charles B. “Chuck” Campbell (Holly) and Mark A. Campbell (Tammy), grandsons Brian A. Campbell (Emily) and Colin J. Campbell (Cameron), and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family.
A private celebration of life service will be held after the holiday season.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Guardian ad Litem program in Raleigh, NC or to the Tidewell Hospice Foundation in Sarasota.
