She came to Steubenville, Ohio as a newlywed in 1950 and raised two daughters with her husband James, and later moved to Silver Spring, Maryland until 2008 when she moved to Sarasota, Florida to be near her daughter Jamie. Although proud of her Hellenic background, one of her proudest moments was becoming a U.S. Citizen.
Effie was selfless and dedicated to her family and Greek Orthodox faith. She was kind, had a colorful sense of humor, and loved having company. During holidays she could be found laughing and dancing. Her strength, energy and compassion made those around her feel cared for and loved. We admired her creativity, whether it was reflected in her beautiful embroidery, crocheting, knitting or dressmaking. Her delicious cooking brought joy and warmth to those in her company. She was proud of her detail oriented profession as a Fur Finisher which she did until her retirement.
She is survived by her loving children Frances Manus and Jamie Valkanas, her grandchildren Stephanie Assouad (George) and Elizabeth Valkanas, her great grandson Nicholas Assouad, her stepson William Manus, and grandson Nicholas Lucas.
She is preceded in death by her husband James Manus, and parents Vasilios Malakasis & Eleni Verikiou, and step-daughter Helen Lucas.
A visitation for Efstathia will be held Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at St Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 7671 Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL 34243, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
