Edna grew up Old Order Amish in the LaGrange area. She often talked about how her parents provided for the family entirely from their farm with the livestock and garden. Everyone had their daily jobs and Edna was more akin to the outdoor barn and field work than helping with kitchen and laundry chores.
She knew her future husband from early childhood- The Jacob Wickey family lived not far down the road- the Troyer and Wickey children met at the creek to play often when chores were done. Edna and Perry Wickey were married in 1955.
They had 3 children, Faron James, Linda Kay, and Stephen Jay. Edna and Perry raised their children in Middlebury IN. Edna was active in school activities, especially high school sports the kids played in. She had many interests, including gardening, bowling, cooking, and sewing. She outfitted the wedding parties for both her son’s and daughter’s weddings.
In 1978 the family moved to Sarasota FL, where they owned a gas station/garage.
Walking the Florida beaches was one of her favorite pastimes, she had a large collection of seashells from Florida waters. She worked in a school cafeteria, and then at Publix supermarket until she retired at age 70.
In 2011 Edna moved to Hillsboro, Oregon to be near to her son and daughter, where they enjoyed many family times together. In 2015 she suffered a stroke which paralyzed her left side, after which she had an assisted living apartment until November of 2023 when a heart attack disabled her, and she was enrolled in hospice. Edna was known for her feisty spirit, and made many friends at her residence. She will be greatly missed.
