It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald L. Hummel, a remarkable man whose life was a testament to love, dedication, and adventure. He departed this life on July 18, 2024, in Venice, Florida, leaving behind a rich legacy that will be cherished by family and friends alike.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Perzie and Lelia, sisters Jeanette, Lucille, and Elsie, and his brother Franklyn. He leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold him in their hearts, including his children Todd and Brooke, grandchildren Ross and Reid and many nieces and nephews.
Education was a cornerstone of Don’s life. A proud graduate of Bowling Green State University, he earned a master’s degree in Education and was an active member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. His commitment to learning and teaching extended into his professional life, where he made a significant impact as a coach and educator, and was an outstanding High School Principal.
Don served his country with honor as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His dedication to his country was a source of immense pride for his family and inspired those around him.
A man of many talents, Don was an avid athlete who enjoyed basketball, softball, tennis, biking and golf. His passion for sports was matched by his expertise as a woodworker and craftsman, a hobby that brought joy to his life and beauty to the lives of others. He also had a love for dance and never missed an opportunity to jitterbug, waltz, or salsa.
Don was a man of integrity, known for his honesty, kindness, and willingness to help those in need. He was a strong and devoted protector, a man true to his word, whose laughter and sense of adventure brightened the lives of everyone he met. He was an active member of his community, contributing his time and energy as a member of the American Legion.
