David grew up in Ansonia, CT where he lived with his parents and graduated high school in 1961. He met the love of his life, Barbara, they were married in 1967. They lived in Naugatuck, CT and began their family. In 1978, they moved down to Sarasota, FL, where they began the next chapter of their life. He owned and operated his own Shell gas station and won multiple awards for being a Top Performer, while with Shell. He also, owned and operated his own automotive shop in Sarasota. When his sons were old enough, they would work at the shop with him.
In his off time from the shop, he was an avid drag racer. He loved to go to Desoto Dragstrip in Bradenton, FL and race the quarter mile. He loved the smell of burnt rubber; the sound of the thunderous engines, giving off vibrations all through the strip. It was something that became part of who he was. He met some of the greatest people there, that led to life-long friendships.
He is survived by his loving children, David L. Marcus Jr., Matthew Marcus (Karen), Lisa Heinisch (Charles) of Warner Robins, Georgia. Grandchildren, Valerie Marcus, Deacon Marcus, Andrew Heinisch, Chase Heinisch and Jack Heinisch. Sister, Shirley Harvey of New York.
