I was so hurt to hear about my dear friend, Clara Ann.  We have been friends since we were fourteen years old.  We met at Palamer Memorial Institute in Sedalia, North Carolina.  Clara Ann was my first friend that I met there.  We became good friends, and Clara Ann took me under her wing and helped me get acclimated to Palmer's rules and expectations.  She was like a sister to me.  Palmer was not like living at home with our parents, but she became my family there.  Clara Ann entered Palmer in her 9th-grade year, a year before I arrived, and our friendship blossomed throughout the time that we were there.  After graduating high school in 1957, Clara Ann went to Fisk University, and I went to Albany State University in Albany, GA.  Even though we didn't matriculate to the same post-secondary institute, we continued our friendship throughout our college days.  I remember a time when she invited me to Fisk University for homecoming, and I thoroughly enjoyed experiencing this event with my dear friend.  I was there when she met the love of her life, George Mims, and he, too, became like a brother to me.  After graduating from college, I had the honor of being a bridesmaid in their wedding.  In addition, I was there for the birth and raising of their two daughters, and Clara Ann was also there for me for my marriage and the birth of my daughter.  We were able to be a part of each other's lives when we both moved to the northeast, and we would travel from Delaware to West Hempstead, NY.  Even after I attended her retirement party, and she moved to Florida, we still kept in touch and would visit each other by attending our yearly high school reunions.  I am so thankful for the opportunity to have had such a great friend in Clara Ann.  She will be truly missed, and today and always, I pray for the peace that passes all understanding for George, Cheryl, and Carla.  God bless you all, and rest in peace, Clara Ann. I was saddened to hear of Clara’s passing. She was a loyal and faithful member of Fisk’s class of 1961. For many years, she was  a key member of the class of ‘61 memorial  program committee which organized memorial services for deceased classmates. Her warm personality and sense of humor will be missed.  I pray that fond memories will comfort the family.

I remember the first time meeting Mrs. Mims it was at the Alpha banquet and from that first meeting I felt like part of the family. Mrs. Mims and Dr. Mims became our children God parents and oh how the jifunza kids really loved their God parents. I remember a couple of times I would fall asleep on her sofa while Mrs. Mims watched  one child playing while rocking the other baby on her chest . Our family  will deeply cherish the time we had with  Mrs. Clara Mims., words cannot even begin to express our sorrow. I pray you be comforted by the outpouring of love surrounding you.
