Herb Waits peacefully went to be with our Lord on August 19 at the age of 91. He was born and grew up in Sheldon, Missouri. Herb served in the army during World War II and then attended the University of Missouri where he earned a Master Degree in agriculture/economics. He met and married the love of his life, Nona Lea Turner in Columbia, Missouri, and they were blessed with two daughters, Taunya and Nancy. Herb was vice-president of USAMEX/Fertilizer Company which in 1980 brought his family to Florida. For years he served as a deacon in the church and was a longtime member of the Gideons. He was a die-hard Bucs fan and an avid golfer, a passion he shared with his family and friends.
Herb is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nona; daughters and sons-in-law Taunya and Dr. James Fogleman, Nancy and John Burges; grandchildren Catherine and Charles Burges, Anna Fogleman, Julia and Dr. Christopher Straka; and great-grandson Wilder Waits Straka. His nephews are Dr. Dennis, Phil, and John Caywood, and Grant and David Waits.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 11:30 at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home - Wiegand Chapel at 7454 S. Tamiami Trail Interment will follow at one o’clock at Sarasota National Cemetery.
