Carroll Reed Rollins passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025. He was 99 years old. Formally a resident of the Summitt (aka the Sheridan) of Lakewood Ranch. Born and raised by relatives in Bishopville SC, after the death of his parents, Charles W. and Lillian Rollins. After high school he joined the US Navy in 1943 serving during WWII. He was an aerial gunner and radioman flying in dive bombers from the decks of carrier’s USS Randolph and USS Lexington. Discharged in 1945, he moved to Florida and enrolled at the Univ. of Florida graduating in 1950. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity.
He was employed with General Finance Corp for 20 years and owned and operated a commercial orange grove in Lee County for 25 years. Reed was married to his first wife, Ann Renee Browne formally from Palm Beach FL, for 29 years. Renee passed away in 1985 at their home in Sarasota. In 1995, Reed re-married to Jane Rooks of Pensacola and resided there until 2018 after Jane passed away. He moved back to the Sarasota/Bradenton area to live out the remainder of his years. He was a lifetime member of the Optimist Club of Sarasota and North Pensacola.
He leaves behind his immediate family members with his first wife, Renee, his daughter Rhonda Cohen-Katzenberger (Mark) of Lakewood Ranch, son, Ronald B. Rollins of Gainesville FL and daughter, Risa R. Moore (Darren) of Naples FL and grandchildren, Nicole Gueli McCroskey (Jeff), David Reed Cohen (Christy), Carter Reed Moore, Reagan Janee Moore and Truman James Moore, and step grandchildren, Trent and Gannon Katzenberger and 4 great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Addison Gueli and Bryson and Micah Cohen. He leaves 2 stepchildren from his 2nd wife, Jane, her son, Dale Rooks (Teri) and daughter, Raynee Rooks-Bouillion (Barry), step grandchildren, Tyler Chote (Carley) and Brynn Milliner (Lee), Jenna and Kimberly Rooks and Madelaine Bouillion.
Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 29th at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave. Sarasota with a reception to follow. The family has requested a private entombment at a later time.
