She attended and graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in Brooklyn, NY before marrying the love of her life, George Peters. They moved to Wayne, New Jersey, where she taught kindergarten until she retired and moved to Long Boat Key, Florida.
Retirement provided BJ with many adventures. She volunteered her time at Mote Marine Laboratories for over 25 years, where she trained staff and educated local school children about sea life indigenous to the area. She supported the arts every chance she got frequenting shows, concerts, ballets, operas and museums. BJ loved to travel whether it be on water via the sailboats that she and George owned, on land in the mobile home that traversed all of North America, or in the air to far-away lands of different countries.
While she loved those adventures, BJ couldn’t wait to return home to family, friends and the natural beauty of her homes in Vermont on Lake Champlain or in Sarasota's Plymouth Harbour with her ocean and causeway views. In these places she enjoyed her other loves: chocolate, cheese, ice cream, wine, martinis, reading, bird watching, playing piano, singing and dancing.
Betty Jean Peters was a lover of life and all it had to offer. She passed away on August 7, 2021. Her kind, sweet, generous, happy, loving personality will be missed by family, friends, and all who knew her.
