Survivors include a son Jay R. Yablon of Schenectady, New York; a daughter Linda J. Mantis of Scarsdale, New York; a son Bruce B. Yablon of Katonah, New York; a brother Gilbert Yablon of Brooklyn, New York; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased in 2003 by his devoted wife Muriel.
Bernie served his country in the US Navy during World War II, and witnessed the surrender of Japan aboard the USS Missouri in 1945 from a nearby PT boat. He married Muriel in 1949 and raised his family in New Rochelle, New York before retiring to Sarasota. He was an avid golfer and tennis player, he loved music and dance, and he was an active member of Temple Beth Shalom in Sarasota.
Bernie’s family and extended family had the good fortune of celebrating his 90th birthday with him three weeks before his death, and he remained active and in good health until the very end of his life.
