Barbara, lovingly known as "Bobbi" to here nearest and dearest, was a vivacious woman who led a full and happy life with her late husband Stanley S. Appel. Bobbi was born in New York City and as a child lived with her parents David Blum and Elizabeth Blum (Kornbluth) along with her sister Harriet Rehfeld in both Lancaster and Harrisburg PA. They moved back to NYC and lived near NYU where at the age of 14 she met her husband to be, Stanley S. Appel. They were married after WWII, when they relocated to Danbury/ Bethel, CT to settle, have and raise their three children.
Bobbie moved to Longboat Key, FL where she is enjoyed a healthy and rich life of her favorite activities, tennis, fitness and the beach. Bobbi’s truest passion were her family and pets. There wasn’t a a single dog she wouldn’t stop to pet along her way. Her door was always open to her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her adoring husband Stanley S. Appel, her parents David and Elizabeth Blum, her beautiful and caring sister Harriet. She leaves behind a legacy of her loving children, eldest daughter, Janice Lynn Appel (Alan Weger), Son, Steven Marc Appel (Christine Appel) youngest daughter, Davi Appel-Hulsebosch (Rick Hulsebosch) Grandchildren, Ami Talkow (Andy), Ben Appel (Charlotte),Beth Caroll (Jerry), Luke Hulsebosch, Jake Hulsebosch, Seth Hulsebosch and three great grandchildren Alix Talkow, Emily Talkow and Josh Talkow
Services will be held at: Sarasota National Cemetery, promptly at 11:00 AM on Thursday May 25, 2023. Those who wish to join for refreshments afterwards will be given directions to her daughter Janice’s home in Sarasota.
Donations can be made in Bobbi’s memory to Alzheimer’s Association or Sarasota Humane Society.
