Anne Pasqualina Vicario, 96, of Sarasota, was called home to heaven on March 29, 2012. She was born in Cliffwood, N.J. to the late Angelo and Pasqualina Marsicano on October 16, 1915. She was the youngest of 6 children. Anne married Samuel F. Vicario on November 10, 1935. Together they raised 3 beautiful children: Constance, Angelo and Michael. Anne and Sam moved to Florida in 1970 and were happily married for 65 years when Sam was called home in December of 2000.
Anne left school in the 9th grade in order to work in a shirt factory to help her family during the depression. About that time, she started to sew and realized an innate talent. She then went to millinery school, pattern making school and taught herself knitting, and crocheting among many other sewing techniques. Her amazing skill, combined with hard work and meticulous perfectionism helped to create a career as a seamstress. Anne created and sewed custom gowns. She also made all of her own clothes which always “fit to a t”. Her family became spoiled because no matter what type of alteration was needed she would do it perfectly.
Although she did not complete any schooling beyond 9th grade, no one who met her would ever have imagined it. Anne had a love for books and read everything from classic novels to books on sewing and reflexology. She gained quite an education through her avid love of reading!
Anne was extremely religious and shared her love for Jesus with her family. She was involved in the church and made friends easily there. She prayed fervently every day and had a list of those she prayed for. This list increased yearly as she would pray for people she would meet…and if she told someone she would pray for them, she took their name, and she actually prayed for them in her daily prayers.
The most important thing to note is the love she had for her family and for enjoying life. Having family together was what made Anne the happiest. She loved to laugh and have a good time with the people closest to her. She loved music and dancing. Anne was known to be the first on the dance floor at family weddings and the last to leave. She always had her family around her. In addition to her loving husband, Sam, and her children, she was blessed with 6 grandchildren (Wayne, Patti, Robin, Brett, Peter and Connie) and 3 great grandchildren (Rachel, Jacob and Emily) whom she loved more than anything. She played an intricate part in all of their lives and was more than just a mother or grandmother; she was a friend.
Whether you knew her as Anne, Mommy, Mom, or Nana, she will be greatly missed by all. But we will rejoice in knowing she is safely home and watching over us as our very own guardian angel. She was a loving, intelligent, funny, classy, beautiful soul who had an affinity for life. We cannot wait to hear the music of her laughter again one day and may she dance in the sunlight until we meet again.
A viewing will be held at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home in Sarasota on Tuesday, April 3rd from 12- 2p.m. The funeral mass will be held at Church of the Incarnation in Sarasota on Wednesday, April 4th at 9:30 a.m.
