Those left to remember her are; sons Paul Bishop of Sarasota, FL; Gary (Laurie) Bishop of Des Moines, IA and daughter Sandra Bishop of Sarasota, FL. In addition, there are five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Bishop; Mother Geneva and Father Glen Ryon, Brother Alan Ryon and Sister Francis Bishop.
Alice grew up on a farm that had heat from a wood stove, light from kerosene lanterns and, yes, there was an outhouse. The first years of her schooling were at a one-room schoolhouse. She sold seeds to buy her first camera and the family helped buy a violin. She graduated high school with honors.
She soon found her love, married Richard Bishop and lived many years in Ohio. They were busy with a 40-acre working-farm. She worked for the Agriculture Department full time, knitted sweaters, sewed clothes and raised three kids.
They moved to Sarasota in 1967 where she worked as a Secretary for a Health Department Doctor and the Minister at Vamo Methodist Church. She mastered the computer and was one of the first in our family to buy one.
Upon retirement, Alice and Richard traveled via motor home throughout the United States visiting friends and family all the while square dancing along the way. After Richard passed away, our Mother continued to travel going to Greece, Panama Canal, and across Europe. She had many hobbies: painting with oils and watercolors, photography, quilting, knitting, crocheting, played the organ, loved card games including euchre and Texas hold ‘em. She also used her personal computer for finances, games, Skyping and was a member of Facebook.
Interment will be in a columbarium next to her husband at Palms Memorial Park Sarasota, Florida.
Memorial contributions may be made to a Charity of your choice, in memory of Alice.
