Alfredo Diaz

Alfredo Diaz Rodriguez was born in Los Palacios, Cuba, to Agustin Diaz Oliva and Estela Rodriguez Llanes. He grew up as one of 7 children during a very difficult time in Cuba after its transition to communism. As a child he always loved baseball and playing in the local rivers with his friends and siblings. From a young age he loved animals ranging from family dogs, and birds to farm animals, which continued into his older years with his dogs, macaws, birds, and cows.

At the young age of 17 he met the love of his life Miriam Martinez. They fell in love in Havana, and were married shortly thereafter. After settling in Havana they started a family in January of 1978. Alfredo was part of an older generation that did not put school as a priority, but he was a hard working family man that always strived for a better life for his family. Most notably is the fact that he chose to flee Cuba in 1980 at the age of 27 with his young wife and infant child, risking it all to cross the Florida Straits for a better life in American. Within a week of arriving in America Alfredo commenced working at Wellcraft Marine as a Finisher in the production plant located in Bradenton, FL where he worked until he retired when the plant closed. In his spare time, he loved spending time with his family, kids and grandchildren, fishing, and being outdoors at his Myakka farm with his cows.

Alfredo was predeceased by his loving wife Miriam Diaz, and his parents Agustin Diaz Oliva and Estela Rodriguez Llanes. He is survived by his loving partner Elsa Nations and her children and grandchildren, especially his little buddy Leangel, his children Gianny Diaz & wife Danielle Diaz, and Randy Diaz & wife Jennifer Diaz, his grandchildren Sebastian Diaz and Oliver Diaz, and his siblings Angel Diaz Rodrigues, Isaura Diaz Rodriguez, Rigoberto Diaz Rodriguez, Ines Maria Diaz Rodriguez, Roberto Diaz Rodriguez, Maria Estela Diaz Rodriguez.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park 170 Honore Ave., Sarasota, FL 34232. There will be visitation beginning at 11:00 am to 1:30 pm when the funeral service will begin, and followed by the burial at 2:00 pm. His family will be present to welcome loved ones, and a short celebration of life gathering will take place after the burial until 4 pm.
