Alan was born on May 4, 1938 to Anna Peterson Phillips and Joseph Phillips of Pittsburgh, PA and was the brother of Norman Phillips also of Pittsburgh, PA.
After graduating from Penn Hills High School, Alan went on to study Engineering at Carnegie Tech followed by pursuing an Engineering Masters Degree at Carnegie Tech and an Executive Masters Degree at the University of Pittsburgh.
After graduation, he landed his first job as an engineer for Westinghouse Bettis. In 1960, he met Janet Bailey, and they wed on September 6, 1963, going on to have three children, Sandra (Phillips) Baker, Kimberly (Phillips) Stewart and Eric Phillips.
Alan was committed to providing for his family and giving them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. He was unendingly proud of his children and 7 grandchildren, Morgan Means, Brooke Baker, Ryan Means, Jessica Means, Taylor Baker, Sam Phillips and Kayla Phillips.
Alan was also passionate about golf and actually attended Carnegie Tech on a golf scholarship. Alan could often be found playing golf with his friends or wife at Stoneybrook Golf Course when he wasn’t working around the yard at home.
Anyone who knew Alan, knew that he was the most loving father, pap and husband a family could ask for.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Covenant Life Church. Checks can be written to Covenant Life Church with Alan Phillips written in the memo and mailed to Covenant Life Church at 8490 McIntosh Rd, Sarasota Florida 34238.
There will be a celebration of life at Robert Toale & Sons Funeral Home Wiegand Chapel located at 7454 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34231 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM on Thursday, February 11, 2021.
