On Sunday, August 12, 2018, Virginia Delores Gerhardt DuBose passed away at age 93. She was preceded in death by her parents (Arthur C. Gerhardt Sr. and Julia Griffin Gerhardt), and three siblings (Dorothy Gerhardt Crabtree, Arthur C. Gerhardt Jr., and Don Wesley Gerhardt). Also preceding her in death was her beloved husband of fifty-three years, Oscar Jason DuBose.
Mrs. DuBose is survived by her three children, Rev. Wayne Lamar DuBose (Linda), Delores Jean Sheffield (James), and Margaret “Peggy” Ruth Pitts (Larry). She leaves behind seven grandchildren, Tammy Jones (Mike), Todd DuBose (Alicia), James Sheffield Jr. (Sherry), Jonathan Sheffield (Skye), Jason Sheffield (Christy), Ashley Pitts, and Alicia Diehl (Nathan), nineteen great-grandchilden, her sister (Gladys Gerhardt Marsh), two sisters-in-law (Ann Gerhardt and Wanda Gerhardt), and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. DuBose is best remembered as a loving and nurturing Mom, Mammaw, and Aunt Ginny. She was a faithful church member and taught children’s Sunday school for sixty-six years. She personally led many people to Christ and was among the first to compassionately minister to people in her church and community during their times of need.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17, at First Baptist Church Satsuma, officiated by Rev. Roy Hill and Rev. Wayne DuBose. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers are Nathan Diehl, Wes Gerhardt, Nathan Jones, Noah Jones, Jonathan Sheffield, and James Sheffield Jr. Interment will take place at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff of Mobile Infirmary and Infirmary Home Health for their professional and caring treatment of our loved one. We sincerely thank the ministerial staff of First Baptist Church Satsuma for their support during this time. We are also grateful for the prayers, visits, calls, food and every expression of love from faithful friends and relatives.
