Thomas Richard Harris, Jr., 96, a native of Putnam, Alabama and longtime resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama passed away peacefully at the William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette, Alabama on Thursday, October 10, 2024. He retired as the owner of Tom's Dairy Freeze a.k.a. Tom's on Wilson Avenue in Prichard, Alabama, after 38 years of management and services. He found joy in the fulfillment and accomplishments of his efforts to help others. Mr. Harris also found happiness in being a mentor and a father figure to his employees and to those who knew him. He cherished and loved all of his family members and wonderful friends during his lifetime. He was a life-long member of Chickasaw First Baptist Church, Dr. Bob Barker pastor and close family friend. He enjoyed playing golf and became a member of Skyline County Club (Heron Lakes) in Mobile, Alabama. He was grateful for the fellowship felt with friends and meeting and making new friends along the way. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Harris is now enjoying the ultimate happiness with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Those left to cherish his memory include daughters,Donna Lewis-Merchant and Jackie Harris; son, Thomas Richard Harris, III (Richard); Brother-in-law, Jack O. Hill; granddaughter, Leigh Wells; grandsons, Marc Lewis; Thomas Richard Harris IV (Richie); David J. Wells; great grandson, Thomas Richard Harris V (Thomas) and great great grandson, Roman Harris; special nieces, Lena Harris Bishop, Celia Harris Etheridge, Brenda Hill Burke, Denise Hill Carey; special nephews,Thomas Ronald Harris, Barry Hill.
A visitation for Thomas will be held Monday, October 14, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. A funeral services will occur Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Thomas will be laid to rest in DuCloux Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Alabama.
