Steven Gibson Hayford, a resident of Saraland, Alabama, passed away June 22, 2024, at the age of 81. Steve was born in Ashland, Kentucky on September 21, 1942, to Sarah and Gib Hayford. Steve also lived in Indiana before moving to Alabama.
Many of you may know Steve as the man who faithfully gave out Salvation tracts at Walmart. He was always smiling as he asked people to read the tract. He told them their life would change if they trusted Christ to save them.
Steve served as team manager of the Citronelle Wildcats football team. He would light up the crowd as he ran out on the field with a football or to pick up the tee after each kick.
Steve was a man of God. He loved singing and led the music at the AHEPA Complex. He soon became the Wednesday Bible teacher and later delivered a message on Sunday morning.
Steve was an accomplished artist and has his paintings all over the United States. He was asked by missionaries in Brazil to paint Revelations, a book in the Bible. They would go out to villages and use his paintings to tell of Jesus and Salvation. The paintings hang in the Theological Institute in Brazil.
His love was to paint Christ and the stories in the Bible. He loved the West and its stories. Many of his pictures depict cowboys and cattle drives. He painted Custer's Last Stand. He loved wildlife and painted many scenes.
Steve never allowed his handicap to dictate his life. Steve was a Godly Spirit on display.
Steve is survived by his brother, John Hayford (Carolyn); nephews and nieces, Robby Hayford (Katrina), Mistica Hayford Grantham (Larry), Heath Hayford (Keleah), and Miranda Hayford Gray (Jeremiah); great-nieces and nephews, Katie , Darby (Landon), Cory (Taylor), Lauren, Maisen, Anna, Wyatt, Jorden, Steven, John Ray, Audrey, Jud, and Abbi; many cousins and countless friends.
