Robert Carl Fillingim, Sr. – a 94 year-old native and resident of Chickasaw, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. An excellent builder, mechanic, and machinist, he retired from Ingall’s Shipyard as a maintenance foreman after 24 years of service. The patriarch of his family and a true pillar of his community, everyone sought out Mr. Fillingim for his advice.
Mr. Fillingim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years, Margaret Fillingim; sons, Robert C. Fillingim, Jr. and Steven Eugene Fillingim; and siblings, Dan Fillingim, and Ernistine Thrash. He is survived by two children, Carolyn Tidwell and A.W. “Skeeter” Fillingim, Sr. (Cindy Cone); grandchildren, Lisa Rennea Barylski, A. Wayne Fillingim, Jr. (Jarrad), Michelle Rainwaters (Derek), and Robert Brian Fillingim; siblings, Barbara Hand (Junior), Marshall Fillingim (Evelyn), and Maurice Fillingim; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. The family would like to offer a special heartfelt thanks to Mr. Fillingim’s caregivers, Lana, Brenda, and Georgia.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 p.m. until the service hour.
