Rebecca “Becky” Stanley – an 83-year-old native of Mobile, Alabama, longtime resident of Thomasville, Alabama, and current resident of Spanish Fort passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020. She was a 45-year member of Thomasville Baptist Church and current member of Eastern Shore Baptist Church.
Mrs. Stanley was an unparalleled seamstress who made, among many things, her daughter-in-law’s wedding dress and her grandchildren’s stuffed animals. Her chicken casserole recipe will live on for many generations, as will her top-notch homemade bread.
Mrs. Stanley will and should more importantly be remembered for her unrivaled willingness to care for her family. “Grand-B”, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, had no problem traveling for hundreds of miles by car for any number of family occasions. Distance was never a factor in making sure she stayed close in her family’s lives. She made her life’s work to care for others, whether it be her husband and children, grandchildren, friends, neighbors, community, or those in need. She has left a legacy of giving, caring, and serving that will be remembered for generations.
Mrs. Stanley was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Nan Maiben Wood Stillings and John Dudley Stillings, Jr.; daughter, Kathy Stanley, and siblings, Woody Stillings and Dudley Stillings, III. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Dr. James Christopher Stanley, Sr.; son James C. “Jim” Stanley, Jr. (Mary Lee); grandchildren, James C. “Chris” Stanley, III (Amanda), Mary Margaret Patten (Jamie), and David Stanley; great-grandson, James C. “Jace” Stanley, IV; sisters, Frankie Stillings Brewer (Grady) and Jane Stillings Buell; brother, William Stillings (Elisa); sister-in-law, Janet Stillings; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon until the service hour. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-saraland.com.
