Ray J. McDaniel, a native of McComb, Miss and long time resident of Saraland, Al, age 85, left to pursue his passion for his beliefs in Christ on September 14, 2011. Ray was born on December 4, 1925 and served in WWII as a Merchant Marine. After the war, he later worked for Smith Corona Marchant for several years as District Service Manager until he co-founded Southland Business Machines. Ray was a long time member of Myers Memorial Baptist Church. He was also a Master Mason of Bowen Lodge 240 and an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and was a well-respected taxidermist. Ray is preceded in death by his grandson, Joseph (Joey) Ray Summers. He is survived by his most loving and devoted wife of sixty- four years, Helen Dickson McDaniel, four daughters, JoAnn Carney (Gene), Cathy Ray Boutwell (Kenny), Sharon LaCoste (Robin), Debbie McKenzie (Steve), nine grandchildren, Ronnie Summers (Kaye), Chad Boutwell (Stacey), Amy Garrison (Torrey), Robbie LaCoste (Heather), Brett Boutwell (Amy), Jennifer Rutledge (Trent), Amanda Spruiell (Pope), Jeff McKenzie (Jamie), and Chase LaCoste (Heather Rose), fifteen great grandchildren, and one very cherished sister Joyce (Sista) Cherry. Ray will be remembered as a faithful husband, a proud father of four beautiful girls, and for the supportive role he played in the lives of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. A wake in his honor will be held at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Friday September 16, 2011 from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the chapel of Radney Funeral Home, Saraland on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 10 A.M. with graveside services to follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens in Tillman’s Corner.
