I have fond memories of many hours that we shared playing chess (thousands of games). Of bass fishing in my little aluminum boat that you sneezed one day and just about threw me out of the boat. I remember the time I thought that i was going to have you help me carry a tree stand through the swamp (bad call) and you stepped one foot out of the boat and sank to your buttocks immediately. I laughed you and you did not. Love you like a brother. Rest in Peace my friend! 

Dear Dad,
We met in the early spring 26 yrs ago, and I was so fortunate to be touching you as you left me during another beautiful spring season. The cycle of life continued as you once again became a great uncle today to Ben and Rachel’s new daughter.  Your brother, Nat, was proud to make the announcement. Our boys are going to be fine and have been most helpful as we plan a celebration of your life. Jackson has your quiet and unassuming generosity. He doesn’t want nor need the spotlight; however, I see all the characteristics of a hero you’ve instilled in him. Grayson  has assumed my role as Entertainment Director and walks in your footsteps as a man with many loyal friends. All of your siblings  have been reassured of your love for them.  Myrick and Wilson have always appreciated your protection and support after losing their own father and are walking with Gray and Jack as they prepare in letting go of you. Busby and Benjamin are playing mother hen to Jackson, and the circle is filled each day with all of our boys. Nick Lowe, Cody Christian, Butters, Nick Saucier...too many to list. You have coached most of them, and you have fed all of them. I love you, Dad. You are the love of my life and the father of my most precious boys. Your journey will carry you to the beaches of Chatham at the Cape as the tide goes out on a cloudless summer day. I will see you there, my sweet, sweet man.

One  of my favorite memories of Patrick was sitting with him on the afterdeck of the Saga Fiord, the Cunard cruise ship we were on for the Parker Alaska trip.  It was following our white water rafting expedition in Valdez, and we were all very cold.  We wrapped ourselves up in blankets, stretched out on the loungers, in indulged in warm-me-up shots of Aquavit followed by beer chasers!   I do believe I might have evidence of that somewhere.  ---  Also on that trip, Patrick, Louisa (LBP) and I were assigned to the same four seater aquaplane for our trip to the Taku Lodge for a Salmon dinner.  Pat and I were in the back two seats; LBP sat up front with the pilot.  She she leaned back to point out some gorgeous view to me, she accidentally hit the open door latch, and my door swung open!  I had been holding Pat’s hand for take off, due to nerves.  Thank God!  Pat grabbed me tighter, reached over and was able to get ahold of the door and close it.  Pretty sure he saved my life that day!  --  And then there was Warren’s christening Pat as Uncle Package because he couldn’t pronounce the name Patrick.  I love that!   X❤️X Hilly

-  The one time many years ago when I visited Pat at the house on Charles V Street, I had not previously seen him or spoken with him for many years; but Pat rolled out the red carpet for me.  He showed me all around the town, took me out to the beach, treated me to a sumptuous dinner at the fabulous seafood restaurant that Jack was working at, and he seemed to especially enjoy showing around some of the inland, lowland areas outside of town that were undeveloped, wild, green and beautiful.  He was wrestling with some pretty serious health issues at the time; but he never mentioned them to me.  The only reason I knew about the was that Grayson took me aside at one point in a side conversation and told me about them.  Pat clearly did not want me to focus on them:  He just wanted me to have a good time.

The highlight of my visit was a barbecued pork dinner that Pat himself prepared for me and the other family members who gathered that night at his house for dinner.  Pat slow-cooked the pork almost all day outside in his yard on a covered grill, and he, Gray and Jack also in the kitchen prepared other fixin's to go with it.  That night, Pat and I had a long, wide-ranging conversation, talking about our childhood summers in Chatham, how well Jack and Gray were each doing (Pat was justifiably very proud of them) and how each of our other siblings were doing (Pat was much more on top of their respective situations than I was, so I learned a lot from him that night.).   At the end of my visit, Pat and I felt as one, and I knew that Pat felt as one with all his siblings, and that he loved all of us.  We both knew that we really did not need to say much more to each other - that everything  important that we really needed and wanted to say to each other had been said.
