He grew up in Dauphin Way Baptist Church and Day Care. Ollie accepted Christ and was baptized at Dauphin Way Baptist Church and rededicated his life at Lockler Memorial Church in high school. He attended the University Military School (UMS), Azalea Middle School, Adams Middle School, Citronelle High School and graduated from the University of Alabama majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
Oliver worked for Flower Wood Nursery during summers while in high school. After college he worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding, El Dorado Chemical Company, in Arkansas, and Ciba Giegy. He managed the Tire Disposal Company in Prichard, then worked for FEMA in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. When the Steel Mill began plans or building in Mobile County, Oliver was one of the first 100 hired. Oliver worked for the TK Steel Mill as a project engineer until Covid 19 was affecting the economy. His friends and work colleague said, “we will cherish memories like his Big appetite and how excited he would get when the ice cream truck visited TK”.
Oliver was blessed with the knowledge and ability to do anything he wanted to do. Ollie grew up riding ponies and horses. He was the first male dancing student at the Carol Lloyd School of Dancing. Ollie practiced Taekwondo earning advanced belt levels and competed in events in Mobile and New Orleans. He liked to run track, played some football, baseball, and golfing. He was an accomplished engineer, a good carpenter, a good “chef”, and could also do electrical and plumbing work when he needed to.
Ollie especially liked working on and rebuilding cars and could repair anything. He liked to build things for hobbies. Ollie also liked freshwater fishing and deep-sea fishing. He enjoyed hunting when he could. He liked motor cycling and water rafting. Ollie loved his dogs and the most recent one is Otis, a red dachshund, who is going to be lonesome without him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Ray Turpin, Jr., and his stepbrother, Rick Ely. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Oliver R. Turpin, Sr. and Melba Charlene Lane Turpin residents of Nashville, Tennessee, and natives of Atlanta, Georgia; maternal grandparents of Nashville, Tennessee, James McKinley Griggs, and Katie Neil Taylor Griggs Vogel. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia (Cindie) Naron Turpin; son, Craig Ross Turpin; daughter, Caleigh Grace Turpin. Other survivors include his mother, Gale (Charles) Seabury; sisters, Kelley (Luis) Paz, Reinah Hanson, and Meredith Turpin; three brothers, Marty Seabury, Timothy Seabury, and Christopher Seabury; Nephews, Benjamin (Caressa) Prine, Ethan (Emily) Prine, Josh Tyler Hanson; nieces, Rachael (James) Meaders, and Sarah Prine (Andrew) McCullough); three great-nieces, Elle Prine, Addie Prine, and Riley Meaders, and one great-nephew, Alex Meaders. Ollie had many other relatives and friends.
A special appreciation is extended to Pastor Charles Gambrell, Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Radney Funeral Home Saraland at 11 am, a visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Community cemetery.
