Shelby was born on November 24, 1953 in Jackson, Mississippi where he spent his early years. He was able to attend the Little Red School House before moving to Alabama. He then attended the Talladega School for the Deaf and Blind for a few months. Later he was able to take a job at the E.S. Mitchell Institute for the Blind for several years where he was able to retire. He was known for his compassion and love he had for his family and for God and his church. He loved spending time with his little dog, Molly, and in spite of his disability he was very independent and loved assisting with small chores with help from family. He lived with his mother from the time of birth until her passing. At that time his sister Virginia and husband Lenne took over and provided care for him.
Shelby is preceded in death by his loving father Neulan Shelby Sims Sr. and his mother Martha D Elmore. He is survived by his sisters Becky Sims Cooper (Jimmy) and Virginia Sims Larue ( Lenne) and is survived by several nieces and nephews as follows: Robert Wayne Elmore, Amanda Rogers, Tiffany Michele Miller, Melissa Gillispie, Sarah Cooper, Jessica Fisk, Michael Powell, Lindsey Carver, Lauren LaRue, Heather Bakker, Jennifer Buckner and Lakin LaRue. Many great nieces and nephews also survive him.
Visitation will be for the family from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, Alabama on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Then all others and friends visitation, will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Graveside service will be held at the pavilion in Lakewood Memorial Park on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 1 p.m. in Jackson, Mississippi.
