He is preceded by his wife of 71 years, Lucille, and his son Nathan Thomas Gulley, Jr.
He is survived by his three daughters, Patricia Keifer (Chris), Karen Greene (Ronnie), and Janet Lewis (David). He has eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Mr. Gulley enlisted in the Army in August of 1943. He entered the European Theater during WWII as a Platoon Sergeant at the age of 19. Soon after he was promoted to Tech Sergeant. He landed on the beaches of Normandy France Sept. 30, 1944. He traveled with his unit through France to Germany. Along the way he was wounded and sent to Switzerland Red Cross Center. When recovered he reunited with his unit and was able to see General Patton in Germany as they started the process of liberation. He was discharged Nov. 28, 1945. He was later awarded the Purple Heart. He then returned home and married Lucille Bethune Gulley and had four children. He then started his career as a lineman for Alabama Power Company in 1947. He retired after almost 40 years of work.
He loved his wife and his children and worked hard to provide a good life for them. He was an avid gardener and could grow anything from roses to fruit trees to all types of vegetables.
