Michael Morris (Mickey), age 88 of Fairhope, Al, passed away February 27th, 2025, at Providence Hospital in Mobile Al. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue and Son, Jeffery Mason Morris. Mickey is survived by son, Michael (Lisa), daughter, Vicki, sister Paulette Harris (Frank), sister Cheryl Sumner, sister Joann Murry and brother Larry (Felicia), grandchildren, Katherine Higginbotham, Joseph Michael Morris (Connally), Jessica Morris and great-grandson, Charlie Higginbotham.
Mickey was born March 25th, 1936, in Georgiana, Alabama to Fred and Ottrie Morris. He married his high school sweetheart Betty Sue Lancaster in 1954 and settled in Mobile County where they raised three children. As a teenager and young adult Mickey excelled in sports, especially baseball and football and later in life found that he had a passion for coaching and instructing young men and women. While working for International Paper in the early 60’s he began taking college classes at University of South Alabama. After much work and long hours working and studying, he graduated with a B.S. degree in Education and later a Masters degree in Biology. After graduation, he began his teaching and coaching career at Dauphin Jr High School in Enterprise, Al., followed by teaching and coaching positions within Gwinnett County School System, Lawrenceville Ga. His Fairhope home had many team pictures and trophies, and he loved telling stories about each of them to his grandchildren. Though we mourn our loss, we also celebrate the life you lived. We remember the countless memories, sacrifices, fun times and the laughter we enjoyed. Your legacy will forever live through the countless lives you touched and the lessons you taught us.
Our family includes Donna Pigg, Dena Pigg and Keith Gates who have dedicated themselves to provide thoughtful compassionate care for Mickey and Betty Sue. We all thank you and are deeply grateful.
