Margie knew there were angels on earth and her devoted friend and caregiver, Mrs. Elvira Lang, was one of them. She was so blessed to also be cared for by Ms. TeResa Banks.
Margie was born February 12, 1929 in Coden, Alabama. As a child her family settled in Satsuma where she remained her entire life. She first attended the old Satsuma Union church which eventually became Satsuma Methodist. Later, her family helped establish First Baptist of Satsuma and she remained in that church for the rest of her life. She regularly visited shut-ins for the church and her car became a taxi to take seniors to doctor appointments. It is untold how many deviled eggs she made for her church functions and family. She kept the senior citizens group going and honed her domino skill, teaching all her caregivers how to play the game in her later years. In her younger years she worked at Brookley AFB, then went to work as a switchboard operator for the telephone company in Mobile. She soon had most of the numbers memorized and could rattle them off without looking. Her older brother, Robert James Henderson, Jr., would sometimes take her to work on Sunday after church on the back of his Harley-Davidson motorcycle so she wouldn’t be late. She eventually ended her working career at Satsuma City Hall working with her best friend, Earline McKinley. Earline and Margie had the notoriety of taking the fire truck to put out a grass fire when no male volunteers were available. Margie loved the “Satsuma School Fight Song of 1941” and would happily sing it whenever asked. Her beautiful embroidery pieces have been given to family and friends through the years. She dearly loved her community and was an active member of First Baptist, Satsuma, as long as her health permitted.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert James Henderson, Sr. and Frances Stoudenmier Henderson, her husband, Joseph Byron Windham, Sr., her son, John Kirk Windham, her brother, Robert James Henderson, Jr., her paternal grandparents, Floyd and Hattie Reach Henderson, her maternal grandparents, Daniel and Fanny Graham Stoudenmier.
Survivors include her daughter, Connie W. Anders (Danny), her son, Joseph Byron Windham, Jr., granddaughter, Dana Anders Terry (Lance), great grandchildren, Luke Anders Terry and Lois Kathryn Terry, her loving siblings who were always there for her, sisters, Delores Henderson Moore, Jeanette Henderson Hill, Sandra Henderson Herrington, brother, William (Bill) Henderson, her sister-in-law, Mildred Henderson, wife to the late Robert James Henderson, Jr., and many nieces and nephews, great, and great-great.
The family kindly requests in lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Satsuma, 5600 Old Highway 43, Satsuma, AL 36572.
