Teeny is survived by his wife of 72 years, Noco Howell; two sons, Burgess "Chum" (Penelope) Howell and Marion Sibley (Paula) Howell, Jr.; two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; a step-grandson; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Teeny was preceded in death by his daughter Martha Elizabeth Howell.
Teeny was the youngest of 10 children, seven boys, all athletes. At Foley High School, he lettered in football as a freshman, in football and basketball the next two years. In his senior year he lettered in all three major sports and was captain of all. Turning down an athletic scholarship at junior college, he attended the University of Alabama for two years before entering the U.S. Army, in the 10th Mountain Division, Ski Troops. He served until the end of World War II and earned three battle ribbons and a Purple Heart in the Italian Campaign. After the war, he returned to the university to study journalism. There he met his wife, Noco. After editing the family owned weekly newspaper in Foley for six years, he purchased a weekly paper in Chickasaw. When this was sold he and his two sons operated Howell printing Company until it was sold and he retired at the age of 85. As an adult, he became an avid golfer, winning in a number of tournaments along the Gulf Coast, including the Parkhill Men's Championship (equivalent to the Mobile City Championship).
A graveside service for Teeny will be held Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Pine Rest Memorial Park, 16541 U.S. 98, Foley, Alabama 36535, followed by an interment. The Rev. Dave Rhodes will officiate.
