John Carlos Barnett, a 74-year-old native of Mt. Vernon, Alabama and longtime resident of Bay Minette, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Mobile Infirmary surrounded by loved ones. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In his earlier years, he enjoyed catfishing the river with his cousins, friends and his sons, bird hunting, and gardening. More recently, he enjoyed his weekly get-together with friends to discuss the news of the day, sports, and Bay Minette “gossip.” He forever will enjoy his family gatherings watching the University of Alabama football games.
Carlos worked as a union Carpenter for 22 years with Local #318 and an Equipment Operator for 18 years with the City of Mobile where he retired in 2010.
Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, William Earl Barnett and Essie Christine Green Barnett, and three infant siblings.
Left to cherish John’s wonderful memories will be the love of his life of 55 years; Dianne D. Barnett, Bay Minette, Alabama, two sons: John Jeffrey Barnett (Liana), Bay Minette, Alabama, James Kenneth Barnett, Satsuma, Alabama, two brothers: Joseph “Buddy” Barnett (Margaret), Satsuma, Alabama, and Paul N. Barnett (Gina), Mobile, Alabama, four grandchildren: Sarah Pietz (Chris), Jonathan Barnett, Elizabeth Barnett, and Bailey Barnett, one great-grandchild; James Owen Capps, and a host of other relatives and many wonderful friends.
The family expresses a special thank you to the nurses, doctors, and therapists at North Baldwin Infirmary and the CCU nurses at Mobile Infirmary. They are all heroes.
He will be dearly missed by his family and the many lives he touched.
The family asks for donations to be made in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Mt. Vernon, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home, 1200 Industrial Parkway, Saraland, Alabama, 36571 on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will follow on the grounds of Bay Minette Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
