He was the son of Horace Greeley and Bessie Blackstock Moody. He attended high school at Rison High in Arkansas, where he received his diploma. He was an athlete and played on the Football and Basketball team. He dedicated his life to the service of the Lord in 1966, where he started and pastored multiple Missionary Baptist Churches throughout his lifetime. At age 86, he continued the Lord’s work as Pastor and Associate Pastor at Spice Pond Road Baptist Church until his passing. He worked at Doctors Hospital and retired from USA Knollwood Hospital as Director of Plant Operations in 1999. Bro. Joe began full-time work with his son Joe Jr. as owner of Moody’s Ceramic Tile Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Jane Sheffield and Mary Mock.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Stephenie Teague Moody; daughter Beckie Lynn McGill-Garlovo of Mobile, Al; daughter Vickie Diane Moody of Mobile, AL; son Joe Moody Jr of Eight-Mile, AL; daughter Kathy Elizabeth D’Angelo (Tommy) of Gulfport, MS; daughter Jacque Ann Frazier (Leon) of Citronelle, AL and Joshua Dallas Moody of Eight-Mile, AL. Also survived by his sister’s Judy Mabrey of Eight-Mile, AL, Rachel Ward (Larry) of Mobile, AL and Debbie Cobb (Jerry) of Eight-Mile, AL; by his grandchildren Natasha, Heather, Tarrah, Cally, Olivia, Nolan, April, Kayla, Mary; great grandchildren Charles, Thomas, Grayson, Blakelynn, Caleb, Mia, Chad, Cameron, Mikayla, Audie, Jordyn “JoJo”, Colton, Dominic, Madison, Kyler, LilyAnn and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bro Joe was a loving and faithful servant, son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Our family would like to thank the wonderful staff, Physicians and nurses for their compassionate and exceptional care at Mobile Infirmary and Fresenius Kidney Care. We are forever thankful.
Services will be held Thursday August 19, 2021 11:00am at Spice Pond Church, 8100 Spice Pond Road, Eight-Mile, AL 36613.
