Jimmy was born August 15, 1948 in Delhi, LA and passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2019 in Satsuma with his wife and son at his side. He was a retired CFO at Olin Chemicals, and a member of Bayou Sara Baptist Church. Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, James Upton, his brother, Larry Upton, and his daughter, Courtney Upton. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharron Walker Upton, his son, Jason Upton, daughter-in-law, Pamela Ribon, granddaughter, Davis, his mother, Vaudie Weems Upton, his brother, Alvin Upton (Carolyn), and 12 nieces and nephews.
Jimmy led a life of service. He was a U.S. Marine, a PTA dad (painting portables, fixing roofs, pouring sidewalks, landscaping, and serving as Treasurer), and little league coach. He was active in the Satsuma Public Library Foundation, where he served as Treasurer and President, a charter member and President of the Satsuma Lions Club, Member and President of the Mobile County Municipal Association, and a charter member and Vice President of the Satsuma City Schools School Board, and a member of Friends For Satsuma Schools. He was chosen Satsuma’s Citizen of the Year 2012, awarded the Alabama All State Board Member 2018, received the Melvin Jones Fellow Humanitarian award from Lions International 2019, and was honored to have the Robert E. Lee Outdoor Classroom Garden of Distinction dedicated in his honor. Although he was honored and humbled by these awards, he always shared with and recognized those that served with him. However, he always maintained that the greatest accomplishment of his life was his two children, Jason & Courtney, whom he loved more than life itself. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home, on Saturday, August 31, 2019, Saraland, Alabama with memorial service to follow in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, Jimmy would prefer you donate to the Satsuma Lions Club, where any donations will be shared with Friends for Satsuma Schools.
