Mr. James William Purvis, native of Polkville, MS and longtime resident of Satsuma, AL, passed away on wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the age of 77. He is preceded in death by his paretns, Jesse Floyd and Margeret Moore Purvis, sister, Alice Virginia Purvis Young and brother, John Clifton Purvis. Mr. Purvis retired after 40 years of service with Noland Company. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy and was a longtime member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a mason with the John P. Byrd Masonic Lodge in Pearl, MS and also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite. Mr. Purvis will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Mr. Purvis is survived by his wife Bettye Bishop Purvis, daughters, Susan Purvis Dickson (Robert) and Sherry Purvis. He is also survived by his grandchildren, John, Grant and Marley Dickson, sister, Frances Purvis Ross (Pete) and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Shiloh Baptist Church, Saraland, AL from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be Monday, November 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery, Spanish Fort, AL.
