James Richard Coley Sr.

James Richard Coley, Sr., A native of Cullman, AL and lifelong resident of Eight Mile, AL passed away on Oct 20, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents Rufus Cecil Coley and Velma Gertrude Young Coley; brothers Harold Coley, Jack Coley and Rufus Coley; Sisters Marion Coley Coleman and Virginia Coley Rogers; and son Michael Wayne Coley.

Richard enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War immediately after graduating from C.F. Vigor High School. He was medically retired from the Air Force after honorably serving 6 ½ years. In 1991, Richard retired from the Mobile Police Department as a Detective Sergeant after serving 27 1/2 years. He was an extremely proud veteran of both his service to his Country and the City of Mobile. Richard was an avid NASCAR and Alabama Football fan. He was a current member of Saraland Baptist Church and life-long member of Myers Memorial Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Dorothy June Smith Coley; Sons James Richard (Doreen) Coley, Jr. and Shannon Clark Coley; Three grandchildren, Destiny Coley (Vince) Latham, Amberly Coley (Landon) Odom and Shanna Lynn Coley; three great-grandchildren, Bryson Lee Latham, Trinity Leigh Latham and Madison Grace Odom, his furry companion Dixie and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Don White, Jimmy West, Jack Trott, Robert Rogers, Vince Latham, and Bryson Latham. Honorary Pallbearers are Joseph Savell, Bobby Smith, Wayne Young, George Langston, Tommy Robinson, Fred Handley, Landon Odom and Winford Smith.

Reverend Don Campbell and Robert Barr will be officiating services.

Visitation will be Wednesday October 22, 5:00 – 8:00 PM and services will be Thursday October 23, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, AL. Interment will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
