Delorian Gravat, 89, of Saraland, died Thursday July 18, 2013 after suffering a stroke in March. She was born on May 8, 1924 to Sidney and Virgil Taylor in Blodgette, MS. Delorian married Robert “Bob” Gravat on July 11, 1942 with whom they had three daughters. Robert died in 1993 after 51 years of marriage. She is survived by her daughters: Norma (Corky) Thomas of Saraland, AL, Sue (Mack) Snider of Sherman,Texas, and Sharon Beverly of Saraland, AL. Six grandchildren: Melanie Luminoso, Melissa Thomas, Corky Thomas, Cindy Beverly, Larry Beverly, and Michael Barnwell; 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, one sister, and son-in-law Larry Beverly. She was employed with the US Postal Service for 25 years as a supervisor and at that time was also active in the Saraland Women’s Club.
The family would like to thank Gordon Oaks assisted living and Crowne Place assisted living for making her last 3 years enjoyable and lively. During this time she became known for some mischievous bingo playing and a daily routine that included hair appointments, exercise, watching Matlock and Walker Texas Ranger, wine tasting, and socializing. The last 4 months she spent her days at Ashland Place under the care of some fantastic nurses that could always make her to smile.
Visitation will be held Tuesday July 23rd at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland from 10:00-11:15 am with graveside services to follow at 12 noon atForest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Saraland, AL.
