Cleo Emanuel Phillips, 81, a native of Perdido, AL and a longtime resident of Creola, AL died Sunday, April 12, 2015 following a long illness. He was preceded in his death by his parents Bill and Lucille (Bryar) Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jo (Thomas), his daughter Terri Ellison (Kenneth), his sons E.L. “Bubba” (Delaine), Joseph (Jana) and David (Jennifer). Eight grandchildren, Melissa (Ellison), Michelle (McDaniel), Jennifer, Bubba, Adam, Kendall, John David & Kristen and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Steve and sister June (Eiland).
Mr. Phillips served as a field medic in the 200th Infantry Medical Division during the Korean War. He was the former Plant Manager of Rockland React Rite (Rockmart, GA) and Owner/ President of CP&Co Steel Erectors. He was also co-owner of Phillips Truck Stop in Axis. He served on the LeMoyne Water System Board for 9 years. He also served on the Creola Town Council between 1980-1984 and as Mayor of Creola from 2000-2004.
Mr. Phillips lived a long and full life. He was a hard working and generous man devoted to his family. He had a love for animals, especially his dogs, as well as a love for serving his community and was responsible for initiating many growth and development projects.
The family would like to extend sincerest gratitude to Gentiva Hospice as well as the City of Creola Fire and Police Departments, and to Donna Williams, a lovingly , devoted niece whose daily visits and care brought a smile to his face.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Creola Cemetery.
