Autry Smith King

Mrs. Autry S. King – born September 19, 1912, quietly and with much dignity passed away at her residence on April 7, 2011, surrounded by her most cherished earthly treasures, her beloved family. Along with many friends and loved ones, too countless to name, Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Alvin King; parents, Dalton and Corine Smith; brothers and sisters, Bobbie Grafton, Charlie Smith, Mary Silveria and Bunny Baker; and one very beloved grandson, Billy King. She leaves the legacy of love and Christian example to those who survive her, daughter, Pat Etheridge (Nick); son, Bill King (Delores); brother, Ollie D. Smith; grandchildren, Cindy Houston (Winston), Cheri’ Gatlin, Christina Rutherford, Mike King (Sabrina); great-grandchildren, Jason Houston, Allison Blaylock (Mikey), Lauren Kelly (Brian), Kelli Gatlin, Nikki Rutherford, T.J. Etheridge, Justin Houston, Abby and Anna King; great-great-grandchildren, Cole Blaylock, Jordan Kelly and Hope Blaylock; step great-grandchildren, Amber, Amanda and Andrew Gatlin (Jamila); step great-great-grandchild, Landon Gatlin. Mrs. King retired in 1976 from the U.S. Postal Service, having served many years as Postmaster, in both the Eight Mile and the Saraland office. She was a much loved member of Myers Memorial Baptist Church, where she served for 63 ½ years in many capacities, which included her loyal and faithful service to the church, and by the mission she held dearest to her heart, to lead others to Jesus Christ, by faith and example. Though there will be a great void in our lives, through her passing, we will continue to rejoice and celebrate her life, the lessons she taught by example, and are most confident that she heard the words from her Heavenly Father, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.” Visitation will be Sunday, April 10, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. Funeral services will be Monday, April 11, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. from Myers Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery West. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Myers Memorial Baptist Church, 401 Shelton Beach Rd., Eight Mile, AL 36613.
