Captain Anthony ‘Tony’ Sanderson, age 62, of Axis, AL, left this world and went to heaven on Saturday, April 17, 2021, surrounded by family in Asheville, NC., where he passed of a sudden heart attack.
He was preceded in death by his father Alfred Sanderson, his brother Steve Sanderson and his nephew Blake Sanderson.
Tony was happily married to the love of his life, Toni Porter Reeves Sanderson. He is survived by his mother Helen Sanderson, daughter Sheena Sanderson, son Dustin Sanderson (Sahvanna), daughter Allison Sanderson, stepdaughter Rachael Kidd (Kevin) and stepdaughter Rebecca Robinson (Jason), stepson Ronnie Reeves (Brittany) 9 beautiful grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Nadine Daniel (Paul) brother Capt Randy Sanderson, and brother Ashley Sanderson (Victoria).
Tony was dedicated to his family first and foremost. He especially treasured his role as ‘Papas’. He lived life to the very fullest and strived to make everyone around him happy, when he loved you - you knew it! He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. He was born in Mobile, raised in Saraland and attended Satsuma High School. After high school, he followed in his father’s footsteps, Alfred Sanderson - aka Capt Tiny, and enjoyed his profession as a towboat Captain for 40+ years. He taught several others on the MS & OH rivers his towboat piloting skills and was extremely respected by all in the towboat profession.
Visitation will be held at Radney’s Funeral Home in Saraland on Friday, April 23rd at 12:00-2:00 pm, graveside services will follow 2:30pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
