Tony B. Morua, Jr., passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, November 10, 2012. Tony was born on September 27, 1926, to Tony Sr. and Roma Morua. He was a lifelong resident of Santa Paula.
Tony was a proud World War II veteran of the Pacific Theatre. He served as a front line combat medic in the campaign to liberate the Philippine Islands, mopping-up operations in New Guinea, and the occupation of Japan. In 1948 he married the love of his life, Carmen. They had three children.
Tony worked as a civilian welder building radar tracking domes for the military that were sent all over the world. Tony and Carmen then started their own janitorial service cleaning newly constructed homes prior to sale. He retired from the Ventura County Star Free Press as the head of plant maintenance.
Tony enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed collecting coins, leatherwork and traveling. His most memorable trip was visiting the World War II Memorial in Washington DC.
Tony was preceded in death by his wife Carmen, son Tony E. Morua, III, father Tony S. Morua, Sr., mother Roma, brother-in-law Fernando Martinez, and nephew-in-law Frank Fierroz.
He is survived by his son Mike (wife Christina) and daughter Patti (husband Jay), sisters Vera Camacho and Helen Martinez, and brother Gilbert Lovio (wife Barbara); grandchildren Tony T. Morua, IV, Nikki (husband Joey) Ortiz, Christina, Stefanie, and Sarah Morua; eight great grandchildren; nieces Linda Fierroz and Kathy Salazar, nephew Rudy Camacho, and his close friends Doug Jones and Jerry Murillo, who he loved as his own children.
The family is thankful to his caregiver Norma Castro, Dr. Michael Tushla, the nursing staff at the ICU and Medical Surgical Units of the Santa Paula Hospital, and the TLC Home Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, at Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th Street in Santa Paula. The rosary will be recited on Friday, November 16, at 12:30 p.m., with the Mass of Christian Burial following at at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 427 Oak Street in Santa Paula. Burial to follow at Santa Paula Cemetery.
