Laura Elena “Nena” Elizondo, 87, of Santa Paula entered into eternal rest on Sunday August 4, 2013 after a brief stint with cancer. Nena was born on August 18, 1925 just south of Mazatlan in El Rosario, Sinaloa Mexico. She had an adventurous spirit that lead her to leave home at a young age. She settled in Fillmore, CA in 1966 to raise her children in a small ranch home. Nena was highly involved in her children’s educational career and worked at San Cayetano School as a teacher’s aide for many years.
Nena was a strong spirited woman with a great sense of humor that was the life of every family gathering. She loved to cook, dance and have an occasional Pacifico “bien fria”. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and word search puzzles. Nena was always very independent. Even in the last stretch of her life she lived on her own, drove, and did her own shopping. Nena will be greatly missed.
Nena is survived by her Children: Francisco Elizondo (Chela), Letty Pantoja, Cuca Gonzalez, Teresa Avalos (Javier), Melinda Yeksavich (Jerry), Arturo Elizondo (Barbara), Eddie Elizondo, Hugo Elizondo, Laura Jaquez (Juan), and Elizabeth Elizondo (Chuck), 27 grandchildren and 48 great – grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband Ventura Elizondo and Daughter Eva Rodriguez.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 7pm with a rosary to follow it will be held Friday August 9, 2013 at Funeralia Del Angel in Santa Paula. Mass will be held at Saint Sebastian Church on Saturday August 10, 2013 at 10am also in Santa Paula.
