Juanita J. Ramirez Laubaucher, 93, of Santa Paula, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, December 12th, 2020 surrounded by her family.
Juanita (Jennie) was born and raised in Santa Paula, California, the second of ten children to the parents of Roman and Herminia Ramirez. She attended local elementary schools and graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1945. After graduation, Jennie moved to San Jose, California to attend Cosmetology School. Upon graduating, she returned to Ventura County and had a lifelong career as a hairdresser. She owned and operated The Collegiate Beauty Shop in Ventura for over 65 years where she formed friendships that would last a lifetime.
Jennie was a woman ahead of her time. She purchased her business with an adjoining home at a time when women were not encouraged to so. Jennie loved to travel and she saw the world extensively. After her first trip to Italy, she was hooked. Her travels took her all over the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Egypt and the Holy Land. Her final trip at age 92 was a tour of Croatia and Slovenia. Croatia was the last country she wanted to see.
Jennie met and married the love of her life, Robert Laubacher of Oxnard, in October of 1968. They had one child, Jennifer. Jennie’s life was a life of devotion to God, her church and family. She was a member of Our Lady of Assumption in Ventura and St. Sebastian Church in Santa Paula. She attended mass daily until her death either in-person or watching the Divine Mercy on TV - not even COVID could prevent her from practicing her faith. Jennie was also an active member of the Young Ladies Institute of Ventura, Catholic women’s organization as well as a contributing member of St. Vincent de Paul’s in Santa Paula.
Jennie was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Jennifer, her husband Robert (Bob), her mother Herminia, her father Roman and her sisters Olivia Montijo, Mary Arguelles, Herminia (Minnie) Garnica and brother Manual Ramirez.
She is survived by her sisters Eleanor Romero, Theresa Tovias, Christina Killgore (Roy), brothers Alfonso Ramirez (Josie), Abelardo Ramirez (Amparo), brother-in-laws Karl Laubacher and Donald Laubacher (Patricia) and sister-in-laws Patricia (David) Swann and Alice Laubacher. She is also survived by countless nieces and nephews. But it was her devoted nieces; Barbara Ramirez, Patricia Ramirez and Sandra Carrillo that visited her often, sometimes daily, to watch Dodger games, accompanied her to out of town events or just sit with her to pray the rosary.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 5th at St. Sebastian Church in Santa Paula. Rosary will start at 10:00 with mass following at 10:30. Burial services will follow mass at the Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard where she will be laid to rest beside her loving husband and daughter.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Bonaventure High School, Attn: Jennifer Laubacher Memorial Scholarship, 3167 Telegraph Road, Ventura, CA 93003.
Arrangements are being handled by Del Angel Funeral Homes, 128 South 8th Street, Santa Paula, CA 93060.
