Jim was born February 26th, 1928 in Dutch Creek, Kentucky to Jim and Ella Ray Felkins. The oldest of 4 children’
Jim’s passion in life was Sports. He did not take no for an answer that passion led him onto the Cleveland Indians farm team, and a Semi Pro football team. Jim played football, basketball, baseball in his later years of softball. Jim also coached Little League was also an avid fan of USC, Dodgers, Lakers and Rams. He passed his love of sports onto his children.
Jim also loved being outside camping, fishing and listening to Sports and Country Music on the Radio.
Jim graduated from SPHS in 1947 then attended San Dimas Cal Poly where he lettered in sports at both schools.
Jim served his country proudly in the US Army during the Korean War, where he made Staff Sargent in a matter of a few months.
While in the Army Jim continued to play ball at Fort Benning Georgia, then in Germany.
Jim loved playing the Harmonica and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Jim started work at a young age, from volunteer firefighter to heavy machine operator to a master of setting ceramic tile.
Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years Cheryl, and 3 loving children Rhonda Portlock of Santa Paula, Don Felkins (wife Joy) of Bakersfield, Connie Maltone (Husband Buddy) of Bakersfield.
His 5 loving grandchildren Corey Portlock of Santa Paula, Natasha Felkins, Jon Felkins (wife Kristen), Aubrie Felkins, Whitnie Felkins all from Bakersfield.
His 4 Loving great grandchildren Koby and Noah Portlock, Lilly and Madelyn Felkins.
Jim is also survived by his very loving siblings Mackie Lindsey of Oxnard, Randy Felkins (wife Frankie) of Santa Paula, Bob Felkins (wife Sue) of Sweet Home, Oregon.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Ella Ray Felkins.
Jim will be very missed by is family and friends.
