She was born on August 10, 1946, in Purisima del Rincon, Guanajuato, Mexico, to the late Arcadio and Carmelita Moreno. Consuelo was the youngest of seven siblings: Guadalupe, Andres, Jesus, Juanita, Silvestre, and Arturo.
In 1964, Consuelo married the love of her life, Martin Alvarado, and together they built a life in various cities across California before settling in Santa Paula, where she has resided for over 50 years. Consuelo is survived by her six children and their spouses: Avelardo (Lalo) his wife Kristine, Martin Jr. his wife Socorro, Lilia (Lil) her husband Juan Carlos, Marbeli (Meli) her husband Ricardo, Guillermo (Memo) his wife Ela, and Jessica (JJ) her husband Eric. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as Grandma Chelo.
Consuelo Alvarado's story is one of resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Losing her husband in a tragic accident in 1988, undoubtedly left her with immense grief and responsibility. However, Consuelo refused to let despair define her future. With six children depending on her, she bravely embraced the challenge of single parenthood and set out to provide for her family.
Learning to drive in her mid-40s was a significant step for Consuelo. It symbolized her willingness to adapt and acquire new skills to navigate life's obstacles. Securing her Childcare license showcased her commitment to finding stable employment that would support her family financially while allowing her to be present for her children.
Consuelo's unwavering determination and sacrifices ensured that her family remained cared for and supported during a time of profound loss. Her strength and resilience serve as an inspiration to others facing similar hardships, demonstrating that with perseverance and dedication, it is possible to overcome even the most difficult circumstances.
Consuelo's focus in life was her family. She was deeply religious, offering nightly prayers for all of her children and their families. Grandma Chelo showered her grandchildren with love, food (making tamales for Christmas), rides (first family uber driver), and invaluable wisdom. She warmly welcomed friends into her home, treating them like members of the family. Consuelo cherished family gatherings, found solace in gardening (her lemon tree where she spent countless hours enjoying watching her grandchildren swim in the family pool), and enjoyed leisurely walks.
Throughout her life, Consuelo touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of countless beautiful memories. Her journey was marked by challenges, yet her resilience and never-give-up attitude served as a guiding light for her family, instilling within them strength and unity.
Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace, reunited with her beloved husband Martin, in the arms of the angels.
