Carolyn was a long-time Santa Paula resident, living most of her last 50 years on Palm Court next to the high school. She was the daughter of John G. Bamesberger, a civil engineer and Rose Lea Graham. Both Carolyn and her older brother, John, Jr. graduated from Santa Paula High School in the early 40’s.
Carolyn was an exceptionally popular person, having been Student Body President of Santa Paula High School her senior year. She remained close to a group of her high school friends all through her life participating in all sorts of social activities as the years went by.
She was an active person, always enjoying competitive tennis, bridge and other sports late into her life.
She was an involved schoolteacher spending most of her years at the Little Red School House east of Santa Paula.
But, most of all it was her family. She reared 6 children: Jim Colborn of Ventura, Jake and wife Lorrie, John Nort and Doug and wife Laurel Colborn of Santa Paula. Her daughters, Jane Smallwood of Tustin and Merry Nell Colborn of Thousand Oaks also survive her. She had 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
One of her most enjoyable qualities, her sense of humor, always showed up at events where she was most happy – family gatherings. Invariably she would find an opportunity to show her pride in her family as well as her humor with the statement she began to be known for: “See what I started?!”
We respect the dignity of her passing and the timing with which she carried it out. We are grateful for her wonderful mothering skills, her nurturing, her humor and her positive nature. She was one of the truly wonderful people to walk this earth.
A service in her honor will be held at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 East Santa Paula St, Santa Paula this coming Sunday, September 30th at 1:30 pm.
