I saw him argue at the Court of Appeal against Big Tobacco and sent him a few cases. Loved his Ford Bronco.

I met Mike at the University of Texas Law School in 1968. He like
I was an outsider, a non Texan, and we spent time together. Mike
told me about his goal of graduating from law school, working for an insurance firm, and ultimately becoming a plaintiff's attorney. We
were partners in our Legal Writing class and my recollection is that
I ended up writing much of Mike's part of our Brief as well as my own portion.

However, I knew how bright and motivated he was and so I was
not surprised one day when I opened the Milwaukee Journal and discovered that Mike had won a huge verdict against the Tobacco
Industry.

Like Mike I followed my goal after law school and ultimately became a criminal defense attorney. In my case, I spent almost
40 years in a legal partnership with a close friend. So I know what
private practice is all about.

Mike and I lost touch over the years. However, I was aware of all
he accomplished.

I was about to email Mike this morning and that's how I found out about his death.

Michael Piuze was truly  an interesting and very different kind of guy. Quirky, sometimes remote, sometimes genuinely a friend, smart, hard-working, and courageous. He took cases that no one would ever think were worthy or had a chance of winning, and would win them.

I admired his intelligence and intuition, and his skill, and although I didn't see him frequently, I will miss him. He helped many people along the way and changed many lives for the better.

Rest in peace brother.

Mike was my dear  friend and a very good man.  Mike loved his entire family bigger than the universe, and then some. He was my North Star. A kind, beautiful, strong  and worthy man who was a warrior In his fight against melanoma. 

May his memory be a blessing.  May his daughters and widow be blessed with peace. Ahav  ha-shalom.
