Harold Dean Higgins, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday March 5, 2016 at Vermont Care Center, Torrance, California.
Harold was born to Raymond and Leta (Ward) Higgins on November 29, 1924 in Peru, Nebraska, his father was a farmer. Harold moved to Santa Monica, California with his family when he was 10 years old, went to Santa Monica High School where he won the Shot Put record. Served in the United States Army during World War II as a heavy artillery specialist. Married Vera M. Beck (Higgins) at age 26, they had 3 children, Sharon, Murphy and Rory. Harold was a General Contractor for 30+ years, was very proud of the many apartment buildings he built. Harold loved his family, music (rock and roll), dancing, adventures to Mexico, his favorite hobby was the horse races. Harold was one of a kind, loved life, loved by all that knew him, he will be missed.
Harold is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Charles) Watson, son Rory (Valerie) Higgins, 6 grandchildren, Stephan, Shawn, Patrick, Tracy, Kyle and MacKenzie, 13 great-grandchildren, Rollie, Chris, Jordan, Shelby, Ashlee, Haylee, Corey, Nathan, Afton, Meiley, Zoey, Dean and Rowen, 2 great-great grandchildren, Karson, Malaki, and one on the way. Sister Mary Maxine Wolfe, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son Murphy Gene Higgins, ex wife, Vera M. Higgins, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral service will be held at Gates, Kingsley & Gates Moeller Murphy, 1925 Arizona Avenue, Santa Monica, California, Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 1:00pm, viewing will be from 11:00am – 1:00pm. Followed by Graveside at Woodlawn Cemetery, Santa Monica, California.
