“Grumpy”
June 30, 1923 – July 9, 2014
Entered into eternal rest at Clovis, California. Born in San Jose, CA, Grumpy lived most of his life in San Jose, CA with Janey, his wife of 62 years who preceded him in death in 2009. Deciding he did not want to farm anymore at a young age, Vince took a job in town at McKinley-Glands Furniture Company, where his parents were also employed. As a member of “The Greatest Generation”, he served in the Philippines during World War II. Upon his return from the war he married Janey and they started raising their family. Over his life he co-owned a grocery store, worked at various large medical and drug wholesalers, until his retirement in 1988. Grumpy was an avid hunter who enjoyed the outdoors. He instilled this in his two boys as soon as they were old enough to go with him. With Grumpy as the hunter and Janey as the cook, their family was always enjoying her special wild game dishes. Grumpy continued to hunt until after his 90th birthday. His final buck taken in August, 2013 and his picture are in the back room of the 500 Club in downtown Clovis.
“He was a good man with a “Grumpy” exterior and a heart of gold. For those who were fortunate
enough to have known him, his friendship and sense of humor will be greatly missed.”
