Philip James Velasco Jr. was born November 7, 1937. Known to his family as “Junior” and his friends as “Phil”. He was the first generation born in the United States after his family immigrated from Spain. He was a proud, lifelong resident of Santa Clara. He graduated from Santa Clara High School in 1956. He played football, was part of the Santa Clara Ramblers car club, and spent many summers in Santa Cruz which is a tradition his family continues today. He loved music and could play both the accordion and piano. For several years, he gave back to his community by serving as a volunteer firefighter. He retired from the city of Santa Clara in 1999 after a 36+ career as a Heavy Equipment Operator in the Electrical Department. Over the years, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, gardening, and playing the lottery. He was soft spoken, quick witted, and loved beyond measure. Phil passed away peacefully in his childhood home on March 7, 2019. He will forever be remembered and missed as a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Viewing to be held at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary on Friday, March 22 from 5-7 p.m. – services immediately following. Interment will be held at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m.
